Companions will not follow

I tried restarting the game already, but none of my crew will follow me anymore.
I can ask them, but they don't react and the conversation abruptly ends.
Autosaves overwrote each older, my newest save before this occured is more than 4 hours back! And several important quests, lengthy conversations and tough battles ago...

I've had this as well and found that changing my home ship fixed it. I did in fairness also try reassigning crew about from the ship crew menu, which might have been what fixed it. Try those out and let us know if that doesn't work.
